Liyat is a graduate of the Cooper Union School of Architecture in New York (1999), and the Technion in Haifa (M.Arch, 2012). Liyat researched qualitative aspects of living in dense urban environments, and works as a consultant on promoting and improving the quality of density in plans for urban renewal and densification.

Her work is part of the growing awareness for the need for tools that will help densify and compact existing cities into places that attract people to live and work in them. This challenge is particularly prevalent in Israel due to very limited land resources and its growing population.
